International Education College of Gansu University of Chinese Medicine
the International Education College of Gansu University of Chinese Medicine was established in January 2014. It is a secondary college integrating administration, teaching and scientific research. It has an integrated office, an enrollment & registration department, and an international Chinese teaching & research department, which are fully responsible for the enrollment, management and Chinese language training of foreign students. There’re currently 10 faculty members, including one professor, two associate professors, three lecturers and 9 master’s degree holders.
Since the establishment of the college in 2014, the College has actively responded to the national “the Belt and Road Initiative” by closely focusing on the aim of building “a first-class open university with distinctive features and strong comprehensive strength in the West”. It has acclimated the trend of internationalization of higher education and seized the historic opportunity of internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine in Gansu by making scientific plan and overall planning, striving forward, overcoming many difficulties, exploring the ways of cooperation with foreign universities, and broadening the fields of cooperation, and expanding the market of international students from Russian-speaking countries along the Silk Road. It has created the brands of education for students studying in Gansu such as “Dunhuang Medicine”, “Combination of Chinese and Western Medicine”, “Zheng's Acupuncture” and “Vital Qi Running”, to encourage and attract more international students to study in the college. With these efforts, the College has formed a pattern of synergistic development of short-term education and academic education for international students.
At present, there’re 123 undergraduate, master and doctoral students from 23 countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Laos, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Indonesia, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nigeria, South Africa, East Timor, Nepal, Yemen, Ukraine, Canada, Vietnam, South Korea, Congo-Brazzaville and Thailand, studying in the College. Through the overseas QIHUANG Colleges of Chinese Medicine and the Chinese Medicine Centers, more than 500 students have completed short-term training in Chinese medicine, of which more than 200 excellent students have come to the College for training, which has formed a preliminary impact in the Russian-speaking countries along the “Belt and Road” and laid a good foundation for establishing the College as a regional center for international education in traditional Chinese medicine in those countries.
The College has placed great emphasis on international educations, and in 2017, it obtained the qualification of the Chinese government scholarship entrusted training institution. At present, there’re Chinese Government Scholarships, Special Scholarships for the Silk Road in Gansu Province and President Scholarships, which are used to subsidize the study, living and others of international students in China.
The College has formulated the teaching requirements of combining “early practice and teaching” in line with the characteristics of TCM education for international students from Russian-speaking countries, and has provided regular early training courses on appropriate TCM techniques, which has greatly mobilized the interest and enthusiasm of international students in learning, and solidified their professional thinking. In 2020, the College launched a series of feature lectures on "Zhihua Classroom"covering knowledge of Chinese culture, local conditions & customs, laws and regulations, etc., based on cultivating international talents of traditional Chinese medicine who know and be friendly to China and love the University. and promoting the excellence traditional culture of China is the main line, leading international students to explore the Silk Road culture, carry out Dunhuang cultural tours, promote the international development of traditional Chinese medicine in Gansu and build a good brand of “Study in Gansu” with a view to promoting the excellent Chinese traditional culture.
